Florence – In Florence they play a game called Historical Football. Although there is a ball you won’t see it being kicked, just people being kicked and punched. Think of it as a combination of 10% rugby and 90% hooliganism. In the whole of Europe hooligans are having a hard time to gain acceptance for their fighting culture. In Florence it is not only tolerated, it is cultivated, because it is a tradition since 1530. Because this is Italy the whole thing cannot take place without lots of talking and turning everything into politics. Actually, all the talking seems to be more important than the ‘football’ matches. That’s Italy for you. When you lose, it is always because the opponents didn’t play fair (in a fighting match without rules). You will never hear a complaint like that from any hooligan outside of Italy. Because the organisation seems to be in doubt how to commence with the tournament, we suggest they turn it into a Hooliganism World Championship. The Italians can do the catering and wear the funny costumes. The rest of the world’s hooligans will decide who wins.
