The 13th Man van Martijn Blekendaal

Benny, Badr, David and Jan Willem can be found on the pitch every weekend, refereeing amateur football matches. They love the game. That is their main motivation. But the weekly moment of responsibility and authority has given them something else – something they were not even looking for: the realisation that respect is a valuable but fragile commodity. Especially in the Netherlands today, where people are predominantly preoccupied with their individual interests and all authority is regarded with suspicion.

My Mate Manchester United van Stefan Valdobrev

Following the quest of a man’s awkward dream to be named after his favorite football club, the film director brings us close to a Bulgarian builder and his memorable mates, and creates a moving portrait of contemporary Bulgaria with its bewildered and confused people, so disappointed by the life in the country that they migrate to their own substitute reality. The journey starts in Svishtov, a small town on the bank of the river Danube, tells the story of the protagonist’s struggle with the authorities, leads us all the way to Old Trafford Stadium, where he meets his idol, the Manchester United top-striker Dimitar Berbatov, and ends up back home, raising questions about identity, about who we are and who we want to be.

The Four Year Plan van Mat Hodgson

In 2007 Queens Park Rangers, a small, poor Football Club of London, were bought by billionaire businessmen and rescued from liquidation. Filmed in an observational fashion, this documentary follows the larger than life characters who put their money and reputations on the line through 4 tumultuous years. For 98 dramatic minutes we are given unprecedented access and remarkable insight into the worlds of Sport, Business, Finance, Power and Ego – culminating in success in 2011, when QPR won promotion to the Premier League and the four year plan – set out by the owners in 2007 – was spectacularly achieved.
